Serena by Ron Rash

Book #5 of 2014 SerenaSerena by Ron Rash

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this book quite a lot even though there are very few likable characters in it. I found it to be a quick read and although some parts were slow the main storyline kept me interested.

Into the Abyss

Into the Abyss by Carol ShabenI just finished reading this book and WOW, what a story             .

Into the Abyss is a true account of a 1984 commuter plane crash in Canada’s wintery wilderness written by the journalist daughter of one of the survivors. I thought it was well written and covered the events thoroughly before, during, and after the crash, telling the stories of all those involved. At times I had to remind myself that it was non-fiction.  I’ve had this book on my to read shelf for some time and I’m glad I finally read it.

Book #2 of 2014 gets 4 big stars!

Identical

Identical (Kindle County Legal Thriller, #9)My first book of 2014 did not disappoint.

Identical by Scott Turow is a very good book. It tells the story of twin brothers, Paul, a politician,  and Cass, a convicted, confessed murderer and the victim's brother who relentlessly tries to avenge his sister's murder.  There are numerous twists and turns as more of the story gets revealed after Cass is released from prison. With plenty of intertwined family secrets and murder,  Identical kept my interest right to the surprising conclusion.

4 stars!

Goodreads Challenge for 2014

The last few years I have participated in the Goodreads Challenge.  I use it to keep track of my reading throughout the year, books I’ve read, number of pages, and ratings given. Last year I set a goal of 70 books and only managed to finish 65, I had a few heavy reads and some other commitments that stole from my reading time. This year I have decided to set my goal at 60 books and although I have picked some beefy reads for this year it seems like a reasonable number.

As a part of my 60 book goal I have challenged my self to read at least 12 of the following:

1.The Girl who Played with Fire by Steig Larsson
2.The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Steig Larsson
3.Song of Susannah by Stephen King
4.The Dark Tower by Stephen King
5.Dr. Sleep by Stephen King
6.Dark Horse by Tami Hoag
7.A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
8.Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
9.Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
10.The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
11.The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
12.The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
13.The Memory Thief by Rachel Keener
14.Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter
15.Eve by Iris Johansen
16.Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens

I put this list together in a real hurry but I am happy with it and can’t wait to start reading some of these books, but first I need to finish some library books I have checked out.
