A Killing in the Hills

I am so relieved. You know when you have been wanting to read a book for a long time and you put it off and keep putting it off it to read other books for no good reason. I did that for about a year with this book. I heard about it soon after its release and added it to my Goodreads to-read list and also put it on suspended hold at my library fully intending to read it soon but that just didn’t happen. I had been happily going along reading some very fine books when I somehow ended up in a bit of a slump and even though I am surrounded (literally) by stacks of unread and highly acclaimed books I remembered this novel that was now buried in my lists, and decided that now was the time.


This book did not disappoint. Opening with the murders of three elderly gentlemen in a small town café in broad daylight witnessed by the daughter of the town prosecutor and ending with a surprising twist. At least it surprised me.  It has a great story and the main characters are easy to connect with.  I thought the storyline concerning Bell was well developed and left no questions or loose ends. A well written debut novel.

I have just placed the second book of the series on hold at the library and am looking forward to seeing what's coming up next for the folks in Acker's Gap.
